Conversation over dinner

G. You didn’t finish your salad tonight.

B. I was a bit put off by the grub holes, I must admit.

G. I washed the leaves really well, I promise.

B. Mmm…..

G. I hope you’re not yearning for that flawless supermarket produce.

B. No. Well, sometimes. Especially those beautiful little golden squash.

G. Lured by eye-appeal! I’m ashamed of you.

B. But those little squash look so yummy…green and gold with fluted edges…and they arrange them so temptingly.

G. Probably been sitting there ‘arranged’ for weeks.

B. I admit you can’t beat ours for freshness…

G. Exactly. Like this delicious strawberry coulis we’re eating.

B. Don’t think I didn’t see you mash the strawberries up so I wouldn’t see the grub holes.

G. It’s termed ‘creative cookery’.

B. Seems to be a necessary skill for every home veggie gardener.

G. Come on. You can’t knock our veggies. They’re fresh. They challenge us to be creative cooks. And they feed the local wildlife. What more could you want?

B. Maybe some flawless little golden squash for dinner one night.
