Conversation over dinner

B. Usually I go around envying the young, but today I was thinking old age is not so bad after all.

G. And what has prompted these ruminations?

B. Actually, small tubs of fresh passionfruit pulp for sale in the greengrocers.

G. That’s a bit opaque for me.

B. It’s all about us having time now. Time to do satisfying things. Like cutting open a passionfruit ourselves and scooping out the pulp.

G. A pleasure the young miss out on because they are so busy busy busy?

B. Exactly. That shop sells ready-made rhubarb crumble too. Sad. Cutting up rhubarb is one of life’s little delights.

G. Like sitting in the sun on the front stoop and having a cuppa.

B. Or noticing the filigree the rain makes on spider webs.

G. Or watching those cheeky lorikeets dart about in the bottlebrush.

B. And we’ve got all this time in the world just because we’re old.

G. True. But why, I wonder, with all this time on our hands…

B….haven’t we gotten around to cleaning the mess behind the shed? Heaven knows.
