Remnant

coolamon tree 4

If a tree in  one of the densest inner suburbs of Sydney in 2019 has a coolamon scar, it sure has street cred as historic. This survivor of the original Sydney turpentine-ironbark forest is still with us because it’s on land given to the chaplain of the First Fleet immediately on arrival by Gov Phillip and since then always used for churchy purposes. It might be the oldest tree in Sydney. Go see it and say hello.

Location: St John’s Anglican Church, Glebe Point Road.
