Surplus to requirements

I don’t particularly enjoy fiery food. Consequently, this stray chilli pepper is still optimistically offering me its summer crop. Why does a wretched chilli plant survive in the veggie plot when veggies I actually like to eat either wilt when it’s dry, get mould in the wet, shred in the wind, get gobbled by the possum, or, at best, deliver a meagre supply? Answer comes there none.
